I love hiking but to get rewarded with a beautiful waterfall is just the cherry on top! Waterfall Virje is a magical spot with crystal clear water and photogenic nature. It’s the perfect place to relax, chill out and take a swim in the icy cold water.

Duration: 30 min (one way)
Length: 1 km
Difficulty: 1/10
Elevation gain: 70 meters
Round type: Out & Back
Season: All year around
Trail Condition: Very good

The waterfall is located in PluznaI, less than a five minutes drive from Bovec. I would be lying to say this is a hike, it's rather an easy walk in the forest. This means it’s accessible and could probably also mean a lot of people on a hot summer day.

When we visited in August we hiked at dusk and didn’t even see one person along the way. We had the whole waterfall and the emerald green pool to ourselves, a truly tranquil atmosphere!

I sometimes get very spontaneous and this was one of those moments. With no bikini or towel I decided to jump into the crystal clear water, but the shock that I felt when I hit the water was crazy - this beauty was freezing cold!!  If you do decide to take the plunge, make it short but sweet and as silly as it sounds, really focus on your breathing. After jumping into the water and almost getting a cramp I realized 9 degrees made it  hard to breath normally.

People recommend to visit the waterfall when the water level is high like after heavy rainfall or late springtime. However, I really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of a 12 meter high and 20 meter wide calm waterfall.
